Rounding out our Coffee feature, Elysian Coffee is another favorite cafe – one I don’t get to often enough since it’s up at Broadway and Cambie ish. It’s perfectly located to stop in and grab a cup of coffee (my own habit), but it’s also spacious enough to sit and visit, or work – a friend described it delightfully on his first visit as “full of nerds!”. The cafe smells deliciously like coffee (shock) and there is clearly free wifi.
But this is about the coffee! And naturally Elysian’s is good or I wouldn’t have included it. They source the best ethnical, in season beans and showcase a few of them at a time. On our last visit they were all medium-bodied – Karengera coffee from Rwanda and Duromina and Teklu Dembel from Ethiopia – and we sampled both the Karengera and a Teklu Dembel. These were made with the Clover brewing system (it uses a metal filter and carefully controlled temperatures and timing for a more exact cup of coffee) but all the usual espresso brews are are available too – including iced. Annnnnd, you can buy the beans in cute, re-useable jars to take home.
Elysian Coffee is at 590 W Broadway, in Vancouver. There’s a second location on 5th Ave. but I’ve not been to that one yet.
