Coffee: Milano Coffee

Another place we like to drink coffee, when we’re not at Revolver or brewing it at home, is Milano.  This chic Gastown coffee boutique comes from humble origins – Turks coffee on Commercial Drive. Brian Turko was the long time master roaster there but bought Milano’s from his mentor when he moved back to Italy and now there are several locations, including an espresso tasting bar on 8th Ave.

They have the requisite items available, including pour overs, baked goods and teas, and honestly some are good and some aren’t. We love their breakfast sandwiches though, and the La Futura espresso is our repeat order now. It’s a really deep and bold blend of flavours with light, fruity notes that are playful.

The decor is pure modern, which means interesting textures (concrete, wood and steel) and a beautiful room – including a blogging table – but it’s not very comfortable to sit in for long periods. The other minus is that the service has been off lately. We still go because it’s open early and close to our house but you have another option – Bella Gelateria has both Milano coffee in their shop AND La Futura espresso in delicious gelato form.

Life is too short to drink bad coffee.
