At SmokySweet.com we give a lot of air time to things we’re drinking and usually that means the alcoholic variety, but this week I want to talk about that sweet nectar of the gods – Coffee. Coffee originated as a beverage in the monasteries in Yemen and Ethiopia as a beverage used in religious ceremonies but it’s come a long way to where we’ve got a cafe on practically every street corner and drank at all hours of the day. 1.7 billion cups are consumed every day! I am in fact drinking a cuppa at this very moment.
We’re lucky to have some excellent coffee roasters and cafes in Vancouver, so I’m going to be visiting those this week, as well as experiencing an Ethiopian coffee ceremony, buna bejebena, and a demonstration and tasting of Coffee Luwak (Civet Coffee) brewed in a balancing coffee syphon!
Coffee Luwak is one of the world’s most expensive and low-production coffee, priced at $40-50 /cup at various coffee shops around the world. It is made from beans of coffee berries which have been eaten by the civet cat. It only grows in Indonesia, and is ranked among the world’s best such as Jamaican Blue Mountain and Hawaiian Kona Coffee. I’m so excited.
Do you want to come and try it with me? We’re picking 3 readers to come and join us, just send me an email at degan @ smokysweet . com.
